Well in the UK spelling has really gone downhill. It shocks me to meet University educated people who can't even spell simple words. The under-20 generation are also accustomed "2 uzin txt spk 4 evrythin" which really hampers their spelling.
I'm 35 and in Junior School we had to do weekly spelling tests I understand they did away with them a good few years ago. Hence the barely literate online ramblings which are becoming more and more frequent. Depressing

It seems there was a ruling in schools that 'content' of writing was more important than correct grammar and spelling.
Add to this the blatant basta rdisation of the english language by texters and you have a recipe for disaster!
I can't read the sh it they write! I will not even bother to read or answer a question written in text format and to all those out there who bleat 'Y d ppl pck n mi spelin' and then wonder why they get no responses...well. If it was possible to slap you silly by text I probably would!
Unfortunately, it looks like someone beat me to it!
It is really easy to spell check!

Would that it were only only online. Sub-literacy is RAMPANT these days...one of the many reasons I've undertaken to home school my children.
Haven't you noticed it everywhere? It's as though someone has bumped off the editors. Bad grammar in the media, advertising, etc, written by supposed professionals.
In the early 90's my dad gave me a stack of his old magazines from the 60's, and I was appalled to see how much Newsweek magazine had been dumbed down since then.

1 - People are in a hurry and don't bother to check.
2 - People are stupid and can't spell.
3 - People are lazy and can't press an extra button.
4 - People are greedy and just want the 2 points.

Most people write their answers in a rush, desperately trying to ensure it is the first answer shown. Also, many people leave school with a weak grasp on literacy and grammar and they continue to make daft mistakes for the rest of their lives.

I asked this very same question 2 weeks ago. Isn't it annoying? How lazy can people get? If I see a question that is misspelled, I usually skip it. What is this world coming to. The education system has to be doing better than this!!!

Why are there so many anal twats that worry about these things? Personally, I'm dyslexic and don't see why I should justify my dodgy spelling to a bunch of people who obviously have too much time on their hands!! GET A LIFE and stop being so petty, as long as you know what people are trying to say, why does it matter?

For the same reason there are people here in Yahoo! Answers that ask the same questions over and over again even though there's a list of similar questions generated as you type in the question.
