sometimes it is hard for us to remember that our pets are unable to talk to us and tell us what is wrong! They will go by instinct. look for a repeated pattern of behavior. It way be wise to take your kitty for a check-up. (if the car sounded funny, you would take it in for a tune up.) Moer than likely, it sounds as if your cat may be in heat. However, nobody on yahoo answers is able to hear the sound your cat is making. I would strongly advise the care of an animal pysician. Though it may be nothing, do you really want to take that chance? There are some cats that when they are in heat, they are in pain. Even if it is an older cat or has been spayed or neutered, he/she will still have that impulse. The chances are higher if the cat was a stray or adopted at a shelter. I have an indoor male cat that makes a very distinct noise when he is in pain. He has a special toy to play with to make him stop crying. This may sound silly, however cats need to learn about the birds and the bees as well! Good luck to you and thank you for caring. Somehting you may want to look for(esp. in females) when they are in heat they will move themselves along the carpet or furniture. I believe the only thing for certain is they are trying to tell you something signifigant.

If it is like a purrt sound, it is a greeting. They will do that as they jump on your lap. And yes, Maine Coons do that a lot! We have one. It's basically a, "Hi there, it's me, how about a nice stroke, like, want to talk about it, what say?" Try vocalizing back using the same phrase. You'll be surprised what happens! Cats have relatively large vocabularies. Books have been written on the subject. Once you figure out what each sound means, you can actually carry on a conversation with with them, kid you not!

I even have 4 grownup cats and seven kittens, that have become new homes - quickly, besides, each and each of them have thier very own particular meows, and one in each and every of them sounds rather raspy - so yeah, they make wierd noise now and back. basically like some people make extraordinary noises.

My kitty growls too when she is upset, she bit me once too when she growled. She was very upset because my hubby's brother was and is still trying to get MY kitty to be friends with his little puppy. My kitty hates it and hubby and his brother think it is so funny to see the kitty upset. I do not want to make a big scene because it is his brother but it truly upsets me and KITTY HATES IT!

Your cat is going through a normal phase called "in heat". This just means that your cat is trying to call her boyfriend. If you let her outside, it will get louder and weirder.

If your cat is a Maine Coon breed, it is perfectly normal. I have a Maine Coon ,and they are notorious for an odd chirping sound.

Obviously your cat has been abducted. My advice..keep a close eye on her. If you see her hanging out with Bug eyed, pale faced aliens..make her stay in side...oh and stop feeding her Friskies Mariner's Catch. Then, start listening to Coast to Coast Am and wait for you opportuntiy to make a report to Art Bell.
