when i straighten my arm, it goes from my elbow to my wrist.
I've got a pain in my elbow to and moving my mouse is proving difficult.

I tried ringing NHS Direct, but the automated thing said it was busy and are only taking emergency calls.

Any ideas?

It could be Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.

See a chiropractor and massage therapist

Much pain is from muscles below is an example of what may help (based on headaches).
Begin with a couple swigs of molasses or a couple of bananas daily - magnesium (which regulates many things in the body) and potassium (a needed building block for muscles).
Drink at least 1/2 gallons of water per day. Running a body low on water is like running a car low on oil is the analogy the head of neurology at UCDavis told my husband about 10 years ago.

Now to the cause - muscles - your back, neck shoulders and head have tender spots. They are knots in the fibers of the muscles called trigger points. It makes the muscles tight which makes them press on nerves and other things causing the pain.

The cure - start with a professional massage, you will also want to go back over any place you can get to 6-12 times per session up to 6 times per day rubbing (or lightly scratching on your head) every where that is tender until the knots go away. The place where the skull connects to the spine press up under the edge of the skull (to get to those muscles).

For more information read The Trigger Point Therapy Workbook by Davies. It teaches what to do and where the pain comes from.

check if it seems to be starting at your elbows funny bone, sometimes if you rest or lean on it for too long it sends all the nerves into disaray giving a tingling sensation for sometimes hours. Rest it and stop using it as that will just make it worse but it should get better with rest. Of course if it is coming from your shoulder or chest then dont wait for nhs direct ring the hosp direct as i know that can be more serious.

This is either due to a nerve compression somewhere in your elbow (most probable) or due to a condition called 'tennis elbow' which is a tendonitis of your extensor muscles. Do you feel this electric shock on your fingers too, and if yes on which fingers?

Sounds like you have a nerve in your arm getting irriatated for some reason, could be in the arm, but could be in the neck, if this continues for a week or more, I would contact your doc, something bad could be fixed.

is it like pins and needles? Because i was told that this can be a stroke. I would call 999/911 just to be safe. Hope it isn't anything as serious though. Good Luck.x

It sounds like carpel tunnel syndrome. You should make an appointment to see your doctor.
