Hi, I've been living in Italy for 8 years now. Well, one thing is to visit Italy and another thing is to actually live there. The people tend to be very friendly and down-to-earth, but you will still find complete ******* like in any part of the world. Southerners tend to be "warmer or friendlier" than Northerners, but that's not always the case. I've met some real jerks, but 90% of the Italians I've met have been very nice and funny.
Italy is full of so many beautiful cities (full of art, architecture, history, etc.)....and Italy is not only Venice, Florence, and Rome. There are so many smaller less-known cities that are breath-taking. You will also find some dinky towns with only 1 church and 1 square, too though. One bad thing about Italy is that there is so much red-tape and the government is almost always unstable...but this is a problem caused by stupid politicians and not the Italian people. The food is really good....each region, each city, each town has it's own culinary specialties. Every time I travel I always go to the trattoria's to taste new dishes. Very few countries have such a variety when it comes to food like Italy. I could go on and on about Italy, but I think you get the picture.

Like a previous post said, visiting and actually living anywhere are two totally different things. I've been here for almost five years now. Yes Italy has wonderful food, a rich history and old culture. But then there's the problem of pollution, smog. The bigger cities like Rome and Milan have serious issues at the moment. I can't remember the exact number at the moment, but there are several deaths a year due to health related issues because of the smog.
Then there's the high cost of living and low wages, many people having problems finding work all over the country, but especially in the south.
Unstable government. Since WW2 Berlusconi was the only prime minister to last his full five year term.
In the 5 years I've been here, I have ONE Italian female friend, all of my other friends are fellow expats. I have been unable to find a full time job, even with speaking the lingo, and have had to "resort" to teaching English, mainly private lessons.

I'm half Italian too, and I love Italy. I spent 3 weeks in Sicily, and it was great. The people were extremely friendly, the scenery was beautiful, and the history was plentiful. I'm looking forward to future visits! I also want to check out the Piedmont region of Italy.

Italy is amazingly acceptable. And there are various reasons. In no different u . s . you could decide for a hike in the Apennini mountains in the morning, and take a dip in the mediterranian in the night. you could circulate snowboarding in the Alps or trekking in the acceptable forests. Nature has given lots to that u . s .. It additionally has a manner of existence to be envied. basically approximately each and every city has something acceptable to be certain, from church homes to mosaics to fountains and statues. Rome is one great museum, you will no longer be able to stroll down the line without seeing roman fountains, stunning statues or a acceptable church. And a similar is going for many, many cities. On applicable of that the persons are very heat and friendly. It varies from south to north, of path, yet maximum everybody you detect would be welcoming. And the delicacies! in the south you will locate the main seafood you have in all possibility ever eaten. Ever had spaghetti and octopus? in the north there will be various meat, mushrooms, and extra categories of pasta you ever imagined existed. And everywhere you circulate, the terrific pizza and ice cream in the international! I honestly love Italy, and if possible, everybody could circulate to a minimum of as quickly as of their lifetime.
