My guess is that most people don't know the true cost of installing a solar system vs. the cost of not installing one. Basicly for all of those who don't know the comparison let me make it clear for you...

Renting a house you pay someone else x-amount of dollars to live in their house. Buying a house you pay that same amount to someone else to call the house yours. After a set amount of time the house becomes yours and the payments end. If you rent the payments never end and may possible go up at the whim of the owner. Putting up a solar system is similar in that if you rent your power from a company you pay them monthly for what you use. at any time they can raise your rates and you will pay more for something that you never truely own. But if you put up a solar system you only have to make payments untill the system is paid for at the end of that time your power generated is yours and you can sell it to the power company if you want to. the other thing about solar power is that you don't have to worry about it going out because someones tree fell two blocks away and took out the line supplying your house.

One last bit of info for those who don't know the costs. A solar system will last several decades with minor updates and is reliable your power company can't make that claim I'm sure.

This is an excellent question. I believe Big Oil and Power companies have prevented the promotion and research of this technology, but now it's becoming more and more available. as for apartment dwellers, perhaps your tenant comity could propose the use of solar power. after all, this will save money the landowner can save
