I have a 2004 Stratus and I had similar problems. Firestone did a tune up and a fuel injection cleaning and I had no problems since. Try that.

It also helps by using mid-grade gas. The cheap stuff I find dirties my fuel system much easily.

Hope this helps.

start off with a tune up and then have them put a scanner on it. the scanner can pin point the problem. could be anything from erg valve to transmission. we had a 98 dodge stratus that did almost the same thing. one day smelled something funny. could not go over 40 mph. had it scanned, transmission needed repaired/rebuilt

did you buy it used? if soo look up a car report of on it or take it to dodge and get it fixed. longer you drive with it like that you could mess it up more.

I suggest you start off, by having a complete tune up to start with, then have it gone over with their scan tool.

It could be your PVC Valve or EGR Valve need to be changed! those two are the cheapest place to start for this problem!

there may be water in your fuel.. you can get an additive to remove the water from any auto supply place (NAPA or even hardware stores) or your air filter could be dirty?
