Jesus Christ.

John 1

1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 The same was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. 4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men.

The "Word", if you read on in John 1, was made flesh and dwelt among us. In order to understand what "the word" was, it is the Greek word Logos. The Greeks believed that all of matter, universe and earth were created through a divine word. They called this the Logos. It was a perfect description of Yeshua for John, so he used it.

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood it... The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.

In the beginning was the word (logos) and the word was with God, and the word was God. The entire universe is held together by the credibility of the power of the word. If the word was infallible in any way, the universe would disappear.

It is Jesus that is refered to as the Word. When the Bible says " In the beginning there was the Word, because in John Chapter 1 vrs 14 The Bible says the Word became Flesh and dwelt among us and we beheld His Glory, Glory as the Only Begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth." Jesus was the one that was begotten, not made, of one being with the Father. Look at it this way so that it is easier to understand. We have a Body, Soul and Spirit. This is because we were created in the image of God. God the Father, Son, and Spirit, you could also look at it as (God the Soul or Eternal One), (The Spirit,The Holy Spirit), and (the Body, Jesus Christ.) God has the Body, Soul and Spirit. The Clue that Jesus is the Word comes when the Bible says the word became flesh. Only Jesus Christ became Flesh and walked among men. I hope this helps you.

The Word was and is Jesus Christ. He was with the Father before the foundations of the earth. "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word Was God." This is a clear indicator that Jesus Christ received a divine investiture of authority from the Father that elevated Him to Godhood.

The Word was God and the Word was with God.
He was with God in the beginning John 1:1

The scripture is indicating that Jesus "the Word" was in God and with God. It's a reference to the trinity or "3 in One". They are separate beings yet intwined together.

the 3rd, of course, being the Holy Spirit or "spirit of God"

later on in the chapter, "the Word" becomes flesh - Jesus the Christ
