Hi. In the past 2 months I have had about 13 composite restorations done on the frontsides of my teeth due to over vigorous brushing, teeth grinding and have recessed my gumline and worn away my enamel on my teeth. My teeth are severely sensitive now. I had a filling placed on the backside of tooth #7 due to a cavity on Jan 24 and that tooth is bothering me now, sensations in my front teeth and dull aches/pains daily. I'm already now using sensodyne toothpaste. What could be causing this?

Actually, this tooth isn't sensitive to hot or cold water as far as I can tell, cold air maybe yes but most of my teeth are sensitive now. My dentist said sometimes after dental procedures are peformed the pulp may become bruised, to give it some time to settle down if not it will need a root canal. It does seem to be somewhat better, the back and in between where the tooth was filled does feel wierd to me but I have never had fillings before in my life, I had great teeth until now. When you have a root canal on a front tooth does it require a crown? How does that work? Any help would be appreciated.

I am a dental assistant so maybe I can help. If it is just cold temp. that is bothering you, it can be that you need a bite adjustment because the filling can be too high and you are hitting too hard on that tooth. If hot temp. is bothering you then it is a nerve problem and you have two choices... Root canal or extraction. I hope it's just a bite adjustment, but if not I would go for the Root Canal. It's not as bad as it sounds. Try to keep your teeth.

go to wal*mart and buy a night guard in the pharmacy dept. or, your dentist can make you one. if you had any mercury fillings (or currently have some) they can cause grinding and clinching of the jaw. with new fillings, baby them. don't eat hot and cold and hard foods for a few months. they can take several months to clam down. if they get worse, you may need a temporary medicated filling.

i recommend an ionic toothbrush and Neydent toothpaste

you are probably suffering from gyngivitis, its a disease caused by too much belief in toothpaste commercials! change your outlook in life dude! no one has the right to judge you by your teeth so relax! try wiping with cotton buds after eating, use a soft tooth brush (the one for kids), gargle, take iron vitamin and calcium avoid eating chocolates and cakes too much, drink water to prevent halitosis (bad breath) but if it is in the genes, well...
