My web cam is working fine when i use it on yahoo messanger! but when i try to use the camera to just capture a photo i cannot see anything on the screen its just black....its not the settings it almost looks like the cam isnt hooked up or something can anyone help me i want to take pictures

the cam is set to record you have to set it back to take pictures , some cams cannot do both at the same time

I believe that you need to install the drivers of the web cam. There should be a CD that came with it. Try to install them from there. Maybe Yahoo messenger doesn't need the drivers installed, that's why you could use it, but in order to use the camera without the messenger you might need to do that. When you do that, right click on "my Computer", press "Properties", then "Device Manager", select "cameras" (or something like that,I'm not sure,cause my PC is in Greek..I think it says "something" device) and check if something is wrong with it.
