Hoping that it is God's will that the person will survive. How can this be the right thing to do. We have the technology and medical science to save people why would it be a sin to use it?

This is what happened with James Hetfield's (Metallica) mother, who died leaving him emotionally scarred for the rest of his life.

The first thing I want to say is that I am a Christian, and I do believe in the power of prayer and that miracles can, and do, happen. Now, that being said, I do think that some people take it too far sometimes by denying themselves medical attention that is proven to help people. Medicine is not evil and should not be avoided if you are sick enough to be in need of it. What the person in that situation actually should do is take the medical attention while they, and their loved ones, pray over the situation for healing. Seeking medical attention when it's necessary is not a sign of a lack of faith; if anything, it's a sign of common sense. God can work in medicine, it's not bad to receive medicine. Just because you believe in stuff that is not entirely rational and does not make sense to the world, you don't have to reject everything that has been discovered to actually help people physically just because scientists discovered it. Use some common sense and take the medical attention while also praying for healing at the same time.

Medical science is more about research on body. It is definitely correct than religion regarding that. Religion is more about eternal nature of ourselves (or soul).
But if we see things other way round soul is limitless. And having faith can do wonders to the body. Most of the time doctors themselves encourage patients to have faith(in an indirect way) before subscribing any medicine. It is called placebo affect which makes any pill work more effectively. Having faith can do healing very fast. Opposite of placebo is nocebo affect. Give a proper medicine and say that this is going to show some reactions. It is bound to happen. That again depends on what faith one is carrying on curing with the support of pills. Both placebo and nocebo affects are accepted in medical science.
Historically belief may have healed many. That may explain why even though science has advanced a lot, some people tend to believe faith is going to heal. I cannot say if belief can do magical changes like bring back one's hands or legs.

Are you sure that had Mrs. Hetfield undergone medical treatment that she would have lived any longer than she did?

It is my belief that many members of mainstream society have given up their faith in God and have begun instead to place their faith in science, which for many is a very real religion.

The problem that I see, is that when medicine appears to cure somebody, it is the doctor or the pharmaceuticalists who get the credit for it, but that when medicine fails, it gets blamed on God as "an act of god". It's as if it is medicine that is good, and that it's God who is bad.

And more and more people are appearing to believe this same kind of thing every day.

Even though the vast majority of visits that people make to their MD's office are purely bogus.

If MDs were doing their jobs correctly, they would be going out of business. That's nto what they want to do. Most MDs become MDs NOT to heal people, but to make money. And they learn HOW to increase their revenue. And in order for them to justify the ways in which they increase their revenues, they have to attend classes at Medical School called "Ethics" classes.

Ethics classes are designed to teach the student that it's okay to lie to the people they are theoretically going to be working for in the future.

How many times have you or someone you known gone to the doctor because they don't feel well, and had the doctor told them that yep, there's a nasty virus going around, and without any further ado, they get handed a prescription for an antibiotic? It's happened to me on MULTIPLE occaisions. Where's the lie, you ask? In prescribing an antibiotic for a virus. Antibiotics do nothing against viral infections.

How many times have you called your MD's office asking if they know of any nasty viruses that are going around that might be causing your symptoms, and are told "We'd better have the Doctor take a look at what you've got" just to be told by your MD that it IS the symptoms of a recent virus making its rounds? How many times is it that THAT is the only time you actually wind up not having to wait and wait in the waiting room and then in the examination room.. because all of his other patients have learned that it's just a nasty virus going around and they've all cancelled their appointments, but they don't want to tell you that, because then you'll be more likely to cancel your appointment, too?

How many times have you been misdiagnosed simply so they can play guessing games and keep you coming back for more?

That is one of the facts of life about the field of Medicine, is that they, like most folks, are out to increase their revenue, and they're not above lying, cheating, and in some cases, stealing, to go about increasing it.

How many cancer victims wind up as living guinea pigs for some sort of experimental treatment in the off-chance hopes that it might wind up being some sort of miracle cure?

Me, I would much rather spend my final days, weeks, months, or years, NOT serving some quack's get-rich-quick scheme, and die with the dignity of being able to hold my head high in my faith in the Almighty.

If I get a broken leg, however, I will most assuredly go get it ex-rayed and set and casted up by a professional.. but I will do my damnedest to refrain from consuming any kind of pain medication.

Jehovah Witnesses do take medical treatment. we do go to doctors. Jehovah and Jesus want us to get the best care we can for our families. we do not except blood. even if I was not a witness I would never take of blood, many families died taking of blood. I agree with Shlane, doctors are only after the money. years ago when I was growing up. doctors came to your home and did not worry about money. now they will not treat you unless you pay first.

There is a Christian movement called the Faith Movement who err on the metaphysical cults and are in error. They push faith like a drug dealer pushes heroin and it's usually to the needy and weak people. My advice to other Christians is check out the doctrine your self because your just as able to understand the bible as these men who stand up the front and sound so clever. Jesus made salvation simple because most of us are simple.

As a Christian, I always pray first, but God gave wisdom to doctors and scientists, so I have no problem going to the doctor and taking medicine when I get sick.I believe all healing comes from Jesus, but sometimes its not instant, we can use medicine too.

i understand Jehovahs Witnesses believe in this i think God gave us a brain to use and the doctors intelligance to do what is necessary for the sake of life, medicines are mixtures of plants and things God has furnished to have and sustain a healthy life prayer is what we do anyway when someone needs help its kind of like throwing a life raft to a drowning man he must take hold of it

Yes, there are some religions that do this. I guess their belief in God is so strong that God will heal their family member and if God doesn't then it was "their time to go." Personally, I would do what ever it took to save my family member. I would never forgive myself if I didn't try any and all means of saving them. I can't leave it up to some entity that is part of a belief system.

Having faith in the Lord to heal is two fold. He will heal directly but he also gave us doctors. He may choose to heal someone through them.

let me tell u of my personal expeience. i do NOT trust doctors PERIOD. ever since 3 of them told me mother that even tho she has blood pressure she could eat salt. ever since then i pray MORE then ever before for me not to be sick or anyone close to me. BUT when we do get sick, we do go towards natural medecine plus an extra dose of prayer. God is the alpha and Omega so he has all cures. sadly some sickness need doctors, which i cannot stand and am sad for because 99% of doctors only want the money and dont care for the patient at all. Prayer for no matter what is good...if you have the possibility to go see a doctor and trsut them, by all means go, but hey, if you have to die, no matter what doctor you'll see you will die. when your time comes, it comes.
