Neither. A tiny, tiny part of me thinks there might be some kind of a higher power. I am, however, 100% sure that the Christian god is nothing more than a myth.

LOL. How about "because there is no evidence for the existence of a god, I don't believe that there is one"?

Your set of alternatives deliberately tries to push atheists into saying that they're unwilling to even consider the possibility of a god. Many of us just simply aren't such black-and-white thinkers. Give us some evidence, and we'll consider the possibility.

If you'd included the alternative that Godzilla cites, I'll bet that most of us would have taken it. I certainly do. Atheism does not mean being absolutely certain that there is no god: it means not believing in gods. There's a huge difference between the two.

Answer B is simply ridiculous - that's clearly why so many chose A.

C) I've lived enough to always be willing to consider the possibility that I am wrong.

However, I came to this position after thirty-some years of religious study and practice, so I think I've covered most of the arguments and that my position is well-considered, thought-out and educated.

If something comes along that undeniably convinces me, that's cool. But I'm why on earth would I wait for it?

A.

I am not "waiting" for anything. I believe there is no God because there is no evidence contrariwise. If that undeniable evidence comes, and is ACTUALLY undeniable proof of God's existence then maybe I, and other atheists, might rethink our position. But we are not waiting for that and neither SHOULD we wait for that evidence.

A.

First, there's no evidence for the existence of a god or gods. Second, it seems highly improbable that this huge, ancient, complex cosmos was simply magicked into existence by something even bigger, older, and more complex, which somehow managed to leave _no trace_ of itself.

I'm not an Atheist but I don't like it when people preach the word to me. It makes me angry and I'm offended when people talk about God. (I think because I've found a lot of fake people using the word of God to play upon the sympathies of others and have used his name to steal, cheat, or control others)

A

If the answer is B, then that person is not an *athiest*...they are agnostic. You really need to learn the difference. As well as how to spell A T H E I S T.

You missed option C) No evidence yet presented shows a probability of gods existing.

2007-03-04 09:48:09 · answer #8 · answered by Anonymous · 4 0

A.

there are many god(s) and they're all equally unlikely. In other words, the probability of christian god, allah, Zeus, Ra, and all the rest existing is so low it is not worth seriously considering. I have seriously considered them but that is because I am an idiot.
