they don't. a preschooler is growing fast and needs plenty of nutrition to be healthy. they might not eat as much as a teenager, but they need an excellent diet. if they don't get proper nutrition as a preschooler, they will have problems as a teenager and adult.

The most obvious is that a preschooler is smaller and is eating to gain size and nothing else.

A teenager has a larger body and as such requires a greater amount. A 'teens' body is also going through physical and hormonal changes and these alterations need to be fueled.

HOWEVER, everyone needs a varied diet with all the types of nutrients that the human body can use.

Teenagers are bigger, so they have more body to fuel. There is also puberty to consider. All that extra growth and development burns a lot of calories.
