The whining fluctuates with the engine revs. I'm thinking it either the power steering pump or some kind of pump in the auto transmission. Btw the Overdrive gear no longer works.

if you turn the steering full lock and then rev the engine, and the whining gets worse it is most lightly the steering pump, if it does not make any difference then it could be the transmission thats wore out, or its low in gear oil ok. have it checked out sooner than later ok.

your gerbil has asthma, possibly emphysema. may i suggest an inhaler of some sort? may solve the problem! ;)
