most sites ask for money and I have heard that most of them dont give you the information they promise. Is there a government site or a site that is trustworthy enough to use that has actual family information?

Ancestry.com is supposed to be good - I work for a library supplier (in the UK) and a lot of our library customers use it. You do have to pay though, I'm not sure how much. Hope this is of use!

Try Rootsweb.com. It's a free site that's run by Ancestry.com. Also, try USGenWeb and FamilySearch.org.

Hope that helps :)
