I just hate the taste and smell of malted barley.

Is there a beer or lager that tastes sort of fruity without being to sour?

Try hefeweissen. It usually has fruity overtones, and is made with wheat.

There are beers made with sorghum instead of barley, for people with grain allergies. Most well-stocked liquor stores carry them; I found one at a grocery store.

Try a Belgian fruit beer, available from any good off licence or specialist shop.

Yes; wheat beer, sometimes referred to as Weissbier. Often drunk in continental Europe and available in most UK supermarkets. It has a clean, refreshing taste.

Sounds like you want a cider instead. I like Magners.
