A cupcake is like a small cake. A muffin is more like a bread (ie. banana bread or lemon bread.) A cupcake is lighter and fluffier, more a dessert. A muffin is more dense, like a snack.

A cupcake is really more of a "cake" with frosting you can use any cake mix to make them. Muffins are more "bread" types but very good with bananas, or blueberries. Maybe more for breakfast.

nowadays there is pretty much no difference between muffins and cupcakes except for the frosting. but in the old days muffins weren't as sweet and people who make home made muffins don't use as much sugar

Cupcakes are made of cake batter. Muffins are more of a bread-like batter. They have a more dense texture than cupcakes.

A cup cake most of the time has frosting on top of it and a muffin does not.A cup cake is really a small cake so it has frosting and a filling.A muffin is a little larger and not as sweet ( it certainly is healthier for you) and no frosting.
