I tried to give it the puppy kibble for pedigree but it seems she doesnt like it and when the older dog was eating her food the puppy started to eat the adult pedigree food from her bowl and she didnt want to stop. Is she gonna get sick? Also any suggestions as to what to feed the puppy (in terms of brand). I thought pedigree was the best food out. Is ALPO any good. Thanks alot guys and gals. Later.

P.S. We tried pedigree canned puppy food and the puppy wouldnt eat it any more for about a week or so. Why? It seems she is hell bent on eating adult pedigree kibble

pedigree is a more better GROCERY store cheap food. Your puppy needs more proteins, and fats as a growing dog, and really shouldnt be eating adult dog food as its main diet yet. She needs some type of better nutrition. Pedigree isnt a bad dog food, neither is Alpo, they are just LOW QUALITY dog foods. They have alot of junk in them. What they call fillers. Which basically is they have alot of grain in the ingredients to make the food less expensive, grain is almost undigestable by dogs, and is just pooped out. The dog doesnt get the optimum nutrition. If there is a better pet store, or change to puppy chow if the price of the food is the reason your feeding this brand. If price isnt an option or problem, try going for Sensible Choice, Royal Canin, California Natural brands, most grocery stores dont carry this, you have to go to pet food outlets for these, but they are all natural kibble and more tasty to a dog, because of the increase in meat and not grain. She wont get sick eating adult dog food, but she could run into vitamin and protein deficencies and cause joint and bone growth malformations later in her life. LOW QUALITY dog food also increase poop production and smellier poop. Better quality foods decrease the amount and smell of poop. I feed all my dogs on the B.A.R.F. (Bioligically Appropriate Raw Foods) diet its cheaper, healther, and the dogs never ever refuse it.

Adult Dog food will not make your puppy sick and is fine to feed to your puppy if you like. However it does not contain all the recommended dietry intakes that a puppy needs so this is why they make specially formulated puppy Kibble/food

Puppy food is high in Protein and contains many essential Vitamins a puppy needs to help it grow up big and healthy. The puppy food you buy is tailored to make sure your puppy gets everything it needs, this is why it is recommended you feed it to your puppy. If your puppy does not like the Kibble you are feeding it now, try changing the brand. My dogs dont like normal Pedigree kibble and wont eat it. They prefer "Supercoat" which is a little bit more expensive than pedigree (not sure if you have it in the US).

In the end it is up to you what you choose to feed your dog and ultimately it is up to the puppy on what it will actually eat. Although you can feed the puppy adult dog food with no adverse effects and it not getting sick, it is recommended that you do feed it puppy kibble as it contains more protein and other nutrients which a puppy needs compared to adult dog food.

it's not neccessarily bad, but the puppy is missing key vitamins and nutrients that it recieves in it's puppy kibble. Try getting your pup some Dick Van Patten's Natural Balance. It is great in flavor and healthy too. If that's not good enough for your baby than keep changing up the food until you find what it likes, and remember don't change the pups diet without mixing in a bit of the previous food for a few days, this prevents dierreah.

Pedigree, Alpo, Purina, Science Diet,IAMS/Eukanuba and other supermarket foods are low quality. They are full of cheap fillers and ingredients that are high allergens and gas producers.Dogs are carnivores, meat eaters not grain eaters. They are meant to extract nutrition from meats not grains. It takes up to 3 times more of a low quality grain based food for a dog to get proper nutrition then it does a good quality meat based food.

It is ok to feed a puppy a good quality adult food, especially if it is a large breed such as a lab, Boxer, Golden, etc. Some good choices are Canidae, Wellness, Chicken Soup for the Dog Lover's Soul, Solid Gold, Timberwolf, Blue Buffalo, Innova, Premium Edge just to name a few

I would mix half and half, I feed pedigree and my puppies will do the same thing so I gave them Puppy Chow Healthy Morsels and they seem to love that, however they will eat a little adult food here and there to. If shes only eating adult then she won't get sick but she won't get the nutrients and calcium she needs to fully develope into a good dog. Also, only feed her puppy food until her joints on her ankles start to swell, then stop immediately because if you don't the joints will have too much calcium and can lead to arthritis and other complications. Also making home made food is a bad idea because you don't know her exact nutrients needs, this is only good for older, 2yrs or more, dogs.

The puppy isn't getting all of the essential vitamins and minerals, and protein needed to grown strong bones, brain and organs. He won't croak from this, however. Also, the store brand dog foods Alpo and Pedigree included, are just not as good as Iam's, Science Diet, Eukanuba, there are alot of them. If you try mixing maybe 1/2 the food he wants and 1/2 the food he needs he may take to it. If so, every week give a little less of the Pedigree or whatever he's liking now. If he starts to not like the new food somewhere down the line, give just enough of the old food to entice him to eat. Now I want a puppy!! Good Luck

No..it's not. Puppies need alot more nutrients then adult dogs do. Kibbles and bits is a very poor quality dog food for any dog.

No, the puppy is not going to get sick. Puppy food just has more vitamins and nutrients for the puppy to grow. I have pups that would rather eat cat food...and nothing has happened but I try not to make it a habit. You can try feeding the pup in a separate room and see how that works.

Don't worry about it-maybe the vet can suggest puppy vitamins.

Puppy food is essential in regards to providing all the nutrition that in adulthood is tailored off to support their growth. I would strongly encourage you to try and find puppy food that your pup will like. Remember to introduce other food a little a time over a 3 day period, generally. This reduces the risk of diarreah that is so common when changing foods. You may also consider feeding the puppy at different times than your other dog so it is not encouraged.

I personally feed my 8-month pup Pro Pac which is considered super premium dog food. This is one of the top brands and is not all that expensive. I pay about $25 bucks for a 20lb bag. My vet suggested that I not buy grocery store dog food, but rather private pet shops with higher quality food. This is one that he suggested. Good luck!

Well, adult dog food has different ingredients in it most of the time. The puppy kibble has certain things in it that's for the puppy that the adult food doesn't have. I would suggest seperating where the puppy eats from the older dog, or keep the older dog food somewhere where your puppy can't get it. Hopefully your puppy won't have any other choice than eat the puppy food.
