Fat Cat on Christopher St.

It has a bar plus pool, ping pong, performance space. It is a whole lot of fun. I went there on a first date and it was great.

I would suggest sticking to Soho as it is as lively as you can get, especially on a Friday night and you can eat and walk and look in the windows and after dinner hit a wine bar if you want (one good one on Greene Street) or whatever, it's just a hopping sort of place in town. Now as far as places to eat. The one place that I really like to eat, and has never let me down, and isn't too expensive, remember this is NY and Soho is IL Tre Merile (oops about the spelling, means the 3 black birds and easy to find in Zagats) it is on West Broadway and has been there since Soho was almosst nothing, which tells you that it's good. Italian, but not heavy Italian, sort of continential food with italian style. Never had anyone not like it, and taken people from England and France to the place. Ok, I admit it, I really like the place and have hit a lot of places in Soho and watched them come and go.
If that doesn't hit your fancy, you can always try Chinatown, it's a fun place to go. You can hit one of the restaurants, my favorite is I believe called the Crystal Palace, it's around Confusus Place, in a mall, up an esclator. The place is wonderful. After that you can stroll around and try some of the pastries. Few people know about the wonders of Chinese pasteries, they are a little known wonder. Then you are right off of Little Italy, so why not head over there for some expresso and some more people watching.
Ok, I haven't been on a first date in a long time, but these are things I think I would enjoy.
Oh yes, also there is also Greenwhich Village. A great place to people watch, geet a good meal and also have great expresso- especially at Cafe Reggio, one of the oldest coffee shops in the city that is still around. As far as restaurants there I'm not coming up with anything off the top of my head, unless Portofino on Thompson Street is still around, which was always wonderful, but there is always Zagats to check out, once you have picked out an area. Hope I have been of some help and not given you too many ideas.
it's NY, anywhere and everywhere has something to offer. I don't know where you live and how much you want to spend so I've tried my best.

Chez Josephine on 42nd Street and Ninth Avenue is a great place to take a first date. Everybody always seems to be having a good time. The restaurant is owned by Jean-Claude Baker, the son of singer, Josephine Baker. The food's good, the entertainment's wonderful and the staff is so friendly and make everyone feel so important. They also are open very late and don't rush you.

Dip! It's affordable & fun. It's basically all different fondue for appetizers, dinner, and dessert. They also have your basic chicken, salads, and pastas too. Serendipity is the ultimate dessert spot. You've probably heard of their ever famous Frozen Hot Chocolate. I'm not sure if they take reservations, but there is usually a line. Good Luck!

Go to the Lower East Side. Very hip neighborhood - try Stanton Social or Shiller's Liquor Bar for dinner and then someplace like Thor (at the Rivington Hotel), Fat Baby or the Delancy after for drinks and dancing.
