We de o pass on the points system, but we do not have the time to deal with it all, and the agency does not guarantee the application and you pay them in stages per part you pass through..........

I completed my application for a Permanent Resident's Visa with the help of a migration agent (Southern Cross Alliance) and they were very helpful. Like you, I didn't have time to deal with everything and the agency made it easy for me. The total charge for me and my family (wife, 2 kids) was 6.220 US$ and the process lasted about 10 months. I recommend you to do the same thing. They do take care of every little detail for you.
One more thing. This agency has a money back guarantee if the visa is declined. They're very picky, so, if they take your case, you know there's almost a 100% chance of your visa being granted.

Personally I wouldn't. However, it does depend on how much time and effort you able and willing to put into the migration process. It also depends hopw much of the process you will be able to deal with on your own. If you think you will need help beyond any assistance the High Commssion can give or have no time, then £3000 could be money well spent, Also remember that even if you use an agency, they should not be offering you any gaurantee that your application will successful because even if they do a perfect job, the Australions can still decline your application.
Added:
If you have no time and you're paying in stages, pay for the agency.

If I were you To save any financial hurt and stress. I would go through the proper channels. You will only end up been disappointed and totally ripped off.
Agencies are doubtful, I would do alot of checking before handing over any funds to anyone. If the point system showed O try a sponsorship. But go through the proper channels.

I'm from SA and we are thinking about moving to Australia as well. We will be working through an agency as well. They do charge a small fortune, but they know all the right people and how to get to them! Good luck and hope we all will be in Australia soon!

I think its well worth it. My fiance and I are Hiring an Immigration lawyer to get myself and My son to America. They do take care of everything for you. They know alll the hidden laws and fine print. You will have far less chance of your visa application comming back unfinished or, even worse, denied. Alot of people say that they can do it on their own, but its a very long hard process and I fully recommend hiring a professional to do it for you. Good luck!

Before you go to that expense, have you checked the web page of the Departmant of Immigration and Citizenship?
http://www.immi.gov.au
Go there first and read what you have to do. All the forms are online as is all the information you need to complete them. I would not be paying someone $6000 or more for something I could do myself in a few hours.

A most beautiful sight, would be to see your attempt to fill in all the documentation.
I guess it all boils down to how badly you want to come here!!
