they knew of each other due to the dispute in their families
but no they didnt know each other personally
and yes people can fall in love at first sight ( im an old romantic )

Because the Montagues and Capulets both lived in Verona and had the relationship of rivalry that they did, it is very likely that Romeo and Juliet were both were aware of the existence of one another, but only chose not to acknowledge it until the events that occur during the Montague party. They then, after sparking interest in each other, formally met and consequently fell in love.
