What ever you do don't coddle the behavior. Ignore it. If it whines don't hold him then he will think it is okay to whine.

He is probably scared because a puppy should not be taken from his litter until they are about 10 weeks old. Mother dogs teach their puppies how to be social and what manners to have. This pup was taken from mom way to early.

First you need to make sure he is warm
Second when he is alone or in his crate or bed make sure he has plenty to chew on. Make sure there are plenty of things to cuddle up too.
Third put something with him that has your scent on it.

Just remember consistency is key. Patience is number 1. And don't give up.

NEVER HIT YOUR DOG.
Good Luck.

He is crying cuz you spell his name wrong! (it's Shepherd)
He misses his mom and litter mates. He is at a new place for the first time in his life and is probably a little scared too. The crying is so his mom can find him again, its a nature thing.
He needs lots of love right now so he knows everything will be ok. Give him some chew toys and some time. He will get over this. Congrats on your new pup. Give him a hug from me!

i try not to get puppies until they are 7 weeks or more because it is very hard on them. when i got my Weimaraner puppy i went and bought lots of toys and some that were bigger than her. for example i got this frog that ribbits and i put it in her crate for when she slept she would have something their with her kind of like a new litter mate. She is now going to be two years old and she still has the same frog. she will not go to sleep if she does not have her frog. lol. it is just going to take time for your puppy to learn that it is going to be ok. you must remember that it is not use to being alone or sleeping alone. i hope that helped good luck. =)

hold him as much as you can, when you put him in his bed but a tickling clock and warm water bottle to lay on let the poor dog know you want and love him, he is a baby that has been taken from his mom, when I got my german sheperd he was also only 6 weeks old Iet him sit on my lap and keep him warm he was fine

he might miss his playmates so play with him and see how that works.if it dosen't maybe you should get him a soft toy to play with to help him not think about his mom or whatever and maybe you should take him to a vet if these answers don't work. that would be the only other thing i know you can do to help the caring and barking

This is very common in puppies, what you need to do, is get a spray bottle filled with water, everytime that pup makes a sound squirt him good, that and don't pay any attention to him no matter how hard it is, reward when he is quiet. He will learn that being quiet will get him attention and treats.

You should put A warm bag under where he sleeps and it'll probably work. Or use a timer......
