A player is someone who knows how to play the game without getting caught and everyone of his or her partners are happy and don't know a thing about the others. And real players know just how to play the game without asking any questions.

I don't get all the other answers. Your question was what makes a player a player.
A player doesn't consider the feelings of others and is always "playing the game," just trying to get their prey, (and I do mean prey) into bed.
I hate both the player and the game. :)

They have to be smooth and cool under presser and can handle more than one gf with out the others finding out. Thats pretty much it oh a player can't have emotions of feelings.

a player is quick witted, sees opertunitys and takes them, not to mention has good conversation, oh yeah self confidents plays a big roll. Like the chick said they get a lot (you know what i mean).
