I don't do it for the perks. I do it just because. It's not like I am going to get a raise or anything. It's just fun.

I've seen other questions along the lines of "is this wrong," and I always react the same way -- wrong is a word best left out of the balance. There is no grand, absolute, flawless, undebatable measure of wrongness about human behavior. Some of those who would disagree are so full of themselves--and of hubrice--that it sickens me.

People use that word because they've been raised or indoctrinated to feel ashamed about certain things, and/or they want to instill that feeling in you, and/or they are unwilling or unable to give you more thoughtful--useful--feedback.

In my opinion, any question like this comes down to costs versus benefits. In your case, you say one benefit is the fun, and of course pleasure, excitement, etc.

The question then is the costs. I saw a few valid concerns raised by other posters, and you may be in the best position (no pun intended) to assess those risks. Part of it will come down to your impression of your boss as a person, and your knowledge of yourself.

It could work out great, as far as any of us know, with no downside now or in the future. Or there could be hurt feelings (on either side), rumors, even a firing. If neither of your feelings get too tied up in it, some of this risk is avoided. (But then, some of the excitement *comes* from risk, doesn't it?)

Good luck, be careful, and I guess have fun as long as you can! But please try not to look at things as "wrong" and "right." Who are we to judge?

For your boss it's a conflict of interest. When it's time to consider you for a promotion, a raise, or just do your performance review he or she cannot be objective. Most companies do not allow things like this because of that. As long as it's consensual it's not illegal. Your company may have a policy against it though. Besides it just gets messy. If the relationship doesn't work you never know how your boss will react to the situation or how you'll feel. Don't mix business with pleasure.

It is wrong because if the relationship doesn't work, it will affect your job. I know people who did it for years and then when it was over it was devastating.

I think you should find someone other than your boss for something that is "just fun"
