Yes you can, but it would be very very rare to get it a 3rd time. Most people only get it once. Chicken Pox is caused by a virus, and the first time you have it the body makes antibodies to fight it off. So, if you are exposed to the virus again then your body will fight it off before you become ill. However, in some cases the body may only act fast enough to stop you from getting it as badly as the first time. I had it twice-the first time was bad, the second time it was relatively minor and confined to one area of my body. Shingles is caused by the virus laying dormant in your nervous system. If you become run down for some reason the virus can be activated and attack your nerves in a particular part of the body. Your nerves each control a horizontal strip of your body, so shingles is characterized by an itchy inflammed rash in a strip across your body, probably limited to a small section and not all over your body. It can be serious in males and cause infertility, so if you suspect it is shingles then go along to your doctor

Yes, if the first time you only had a very light case. However, the chickenpox virus will lay dormant in the adult body after a childhood infection. Then, if you get them as an adult, it is called shingles. This is similar to chicken pox in that is has the same virus, and spotting rash, but is different because it causes muscle pain that can last up to 6 months after the rash is gone. My dad just got diagnosed with the shingles on Friday. He said it is worse than when he had them as a child.

Most commonly, once you have chicken pox, you build up an immunity and cannot get them again. This is not always the case, though and there are exceptions.
I've had them 3 times, and I've had shingles twice...

Yes you can catch them twice although it is uncommon.
Shingles is a different strain of the same virus and you dont necessarily catch shingles if you catch chicken pox again.

I think you can if you only got a mild dose and were very young. My daughter had only a few spots and was under 1 - doctor said she might get them again. Otherwise when you get it again it comes back in the form of shingles.

Very unlikely but not unheard of.
As an adult it is more likely to develop into shingles which is more serious.
