To the question, is the barking bad?
No its not bad because my dog can do no wrong in my eyes. I love him more than anything and everything he does to me is funny

He is letting you know that your father has arrived. They bark just like we talk....so actually he is talking to you...not your Dad. Miniature poodles are very affectionate & like their owners to know they are "protecting them"...no matter how tiny they really are. lol Enjoy! Patti

A dogs first instince is to protect. But, since the dog knows your dad, it's most likely excitement. My dog jumped only on my mother everytime she came over, licked my sister to death and barked at me. They usually do things in routine. I doubt their is any way you can break this bad habit without expensive training and rigorous practice on your part to make it stick. But, is barking really so bad? If it only lasts as long as your dad walking in the door, that isn't totally crazy behaviour for a dog. Maybe your dog prefers female over male? The dog is letting the male know, "Hey, this is my territory, you can come in, but you eventually have to leave."

I had a toy poodle that passed about 3 years ago but he barked at everyone because he was happy to see them.

He must be a very happy and excited dog! He barks and jumps at your dad and not to you because he doesn't see your dad as much and maybe your dad doesn't play with the dog as much as he plays with you?

I have two boxers and they never bark at me or my fiancé when we come home. But if anyone else comes over they must bark at them to make their presence be know. Like you were saying they even bark at people they see everyday! This is just their way of saying, “hey, I’m here pay attention to me!”

Dogs bark for many reasons. If he is barking at people tat he likes and enjoys then it could be his way of begging them to "come on in and pet me".
The reason he doesn't bark at you is that you are a constant in his life. e has no need to "invite you in".

He must be around you a lot more than your dad or other people that he likes. He's barking to get their attention so that they'll come over and be with him. He doesn't with you because you're always around.
Additional: Well, then, he must like him better than you, so he gets more excited at his presence.

Barking isn't always bad. It could be a greeting. some dogs are more vocal than others. Or, like most dogs, your dog could find your dad (a man) scarier than women.

he probably barks because he is so excited to see your dad that he can't control himself, but at the same time he is being a little bit protective of you. (in a good way)

Your dog thinks that he's the boss. He's the pack leader. You need to take over and show calm assertive energy and let your dog know that you are the pack leader and that anyone else is above him in the hierarchy. Read Cesar Millan's book
