How can I change the icons attached to exe's and folders?

How can I change the icon permanently, so that if I bring the exe or folder on a usb stick to a different computer, it will not revert to the original icon? SO far the programs that I have found just display the icon on my home pc, not any other ones.

You need to copy the icons with the files or folders, once it is off you computer you need to find it again because it is in a different place.
