The urologist carried out an internal examination and said the bladder was "pristine"and could find no reason except that radiotherapy affects people in different ways. Will I just have to accept this. I do not take painkillers as I am worried about long term effects.

I would go and see your doctor and talk to him/her about your problem before taking any pain killers..as there maybe an under lying problem,they maybe able to give you advice what you should do.I'm not trying to scare you but..you are better to talk with your doctor.
