The VA has its own budget and needs to take care of business. Obviously, they've been doing no such thing or such conditions wouldn't exist in any VA hospital, much less the veteran flagship hospital Walter Reed. It's one thing to face such conditions in combat, but quite another in what is supposed to be the best military hospital of them all!

The Va budget has increased from 47 billion in 2001 to 80 billion in 2007. That's 70% in 6 years.

I always wonder why people like Tman post bs articles where the article author doesn't even know what the VA budget is.

Like other have said, Walter Reed is not a VA hospital, it is a Army hospital, thats why the Commander of Walter Reed was relieved of command.

Thats why the Secretary of the Army was asked to resign, he wanted to replace the relieved commander, with another general, who knew about the problems, but ignored them and did nothing to correct them.

As to all the so called cuts in specific VA programs, they aren't cuts,

In 1996 the VA started allowing Veterans with Non-Service connected problems to start accessing the VA system.

Now what they are doing, is putting cost controls on the Non-Service connected veterans whose income is above the VA means test..

IE: you are a veteran with a Non-Service connected problem with an income higher than $27,790 for a single person, you have to make a co-pay to receive service.

Unfortunately bad medical care is nothing new for the military, it's been happening since Valley Forge. The only thing different is the Washington Post had latched on to this story...

In 2000 I broke my arm in three places on a Thursday night training accident, I didn't get into surgery to have my arm set until the following Tuesday morning. Where was the Washington Post then?

No. I think the money earmarked for people too lazy to work should go to veterans care.

Bush only cares about veterans when making a speech telling everyone the democrats don't support our troops . The truth is he's cut funding massively for veterans health care . See the link below for information on this , Bush is a hypocrite and is not in support of the troops himself as this clearly proves beyond a doubt . Bush is a menace and a disgrace to our nation .

The money was cut to the hospital in 1996 and I think the blame and focus needs to stay on those within the hospital who are responsible. A Republican reported it to Congress and they threw it out.

Hell Yes!!!

Walter Reed was on the chopping block scheduled to be closed(to save money)!!!
In the middle of two wars no less!!!

I suspect the general was fired to protect those who made the decision to close that facility. Can you say bush and co.

Yet again this administration has shown it's utter stupidity and and disregard for the American People!

When are we gonna wake up get out of this stupid I raq war and throw bush, cheney, rumsfeld and who ever else got us into this mess (and please don't mention 911, Iraq had nothing to do with 911) in jail?

Impeach bush NOW!!!

How much money do you think that we should spend on buildings that are going to be torn down in a few years?

If the military had upgraded that building - you would be here complaining about how the military is 'wasting' the money.

My wife had an appointment there back in 1994 before I retired. It wasn't so great back then. The problem isn't new and everybody knows it.
