While the congress was in the dark?

lo, you are confusing concern about the military establishment with concern for the troops. You have the same mentality as those who let our injured heros sit in squallor just so the big brass and the administration wouldn't be embarrassed.

Duffman - that is exactly the point of the media. It is in the interests of the American people to get out stories that are of interest to the American people.

Congress seems to remain in the dark as it allows the President to do as he pleases and so goes the Vet. Hospital as well, our media is "out there" observing life and recording it.

I don't think the media "uncovered" anything. The problems have always been there. Someone presented them with the story and in this political climate today, it was a way for the liberal media to bash the President and the administration. It wasn't done with any deep love for the troops, trust me. Congress funds these places, so when they cut budgets, this is what happens. This is one place, one set of buildings. Was it wrong yes. Is it rampant, no. Most US Military hospitals are top notch, immaculate facilities.
In any organization as large and stressed as the US miltary, things slip through the cracks. This is one of those cases. Supporting our troops has nothing to do with this news story.

The media doesn't support the troops or they would show some of the good things they've accomplished over there. Congress wasn't in the dark, a Republican reported it to congress and they dismissed it. Again, we need to keep the focus on those individuals who are directly responsible for what took place.

One hospital out of how many??? One hospital in DC, yet. Most of the Privileged Politicians use Walter Reed, how bad could it be?
The man responsible for the situation has been removed, and will be remedied. Now just how clean is you local hospital???

The Media couldn't uncover their beds....Look at Geraldo, the investigative reporter...Couldnt find dark at night..Some one called that was probably a Liberal Vet and was upset because a Republican Vet got called before him

My VA Hospital is great, and my son's is too.....

Unfortunately, that is not the way it works, as far as who is responsible. The hospital administrators must be held accountable, along with its maintenance superintendent. They ultimately are the ones responsible for repairing or requesting funds for the hospital maintenance and improvement plans. This is a federally funded hospital(alike many others who also receive federal aid), with a primary focus of military clients. The day to day operations of this establishment and entity, is not a political issue at all. This is only a political maneuver and strategy move, to help themselves discredit someone unjustly, and sadly the media is a part of it also.

The media was simply out for a story.

If the military had refurbished that building - the Washington Post would have published an expose of how the military is wasting money on upgrades to buildings that are scheduled to be torn down.

And then you would be here complaining about that!

I always concider it amazing that people seem to refer to The Media as a single mind, a single entity.

The 'media' is a complex mix of corporate interests and individual voices. Often, the most outrageous voices get the most grease. Has nothing to do with truth or leanings.

The media is an equal opportunity offender.... If the media gets a story they will print it regardless of the damage it does or the good that ultimately comes form it. A story is a story and they will stick a camera in front of a little child who was just abused as well as the head of the Army and anyone in between....

The media only cares about supporting themselves. Walter Reed was a huge story and they all wanted to get to it first.

That damn liberal media that is destroying America....whatever. They sure did the soldiers a big service by uncovering the stuff happening at Walter Reed.

The media dislikes every aspect of our military. They will do anything to make them look bad. Uncovering the stuff at Walter Reed will just make the military look worse. And it won't be long before they try to blame the whole thing on George W. Bush.
