(Disclaimer) I'm a Christian in a main-line Christian Church. I was wondering if you would ever see a possible acceptance or acknowlegement of the LDS as Christians. My church views the LDS church as a cult and I'm sure they look at me and my Church as a cult as well. I have met several of them at my front door and have several that are distant family relations etc. I really hate that there is this division between us, I know they are very good people and we have so many things in common, it just breaks my heart. It's like we have this distant cousin we don't speak of or speak too because of something bad a long time ago. I know they have the book of Mormon which we reject as truth...yet it does not sit well in my spirit to feel this way about such good people just like me...I don't sense the Holy-Spirit in this division. I have decided to view them as Christians and my friends and accept them and just know God will work out who is wrong later on...that feels right to me

You?

It's clear this is a very emotional isue for you and it's hard for me to accept very good athiests and agnostics I know are not saved. But if Christianity is True then it shouldn't be about what would be nice to be the case it's about what is the case.

With mormons the truth is they belive a lot of things that are totally and completely inconsistant with what the bible actually says. Thier book of mormon specifically says the bible has been alterted and only aspects are true. A few highlights of what they belive

- Who we call God has a father of his own
- We are all spirit children of God and our life is a chance for us to become like God.
-There a several levels of heaven which you can achive based on your actions in this life.
- Jews sailed to the americas, in 600 bc and populated the Native American race

these beliefs are directly inconsistant with the beliefs that the evangelical church holds. Both belief systems can't possibly be ture. So if you do belive in what the evangelical church says then it will only confuse things to think of mormons as the same. That's like calling butter and cream the same thing, they are both great and come from similar sources but they're still difernt.

This doesn't mean you can't be friends with these people or care about them. It just means you belive differnt then them.

I agree with the pray for them. Love them. The Holy Spirit will let you know if and how you need to talk to them.

I have heard of a Reoganized LDS church but I don't remember where or when but I think they were closer to your main-line beliefs.

Yes, I think the churches are pretty ignorant to not accept them as Christians. I'm not sure exactly what they are basing their criteria on....but people who accept Christ as their savior and believe in the trinity should be called Christians. A lot of people consider the group Christians, so you're not alone in your thoughts.

You are not discerning this correctly. The bible says that any who come with another gospel other than what we've already received, let them be accursed, and then repeats that stance rather firmly.
They also believe Satan and Jesus are brothers.
Don't blame your unwillingness to see the truth on the Holy Spirit's absence from this situation.

No it is not.
They have added.
Another book.
Have you researched the LDS?
Did you find out what they do?
Have you any idea as to their beliefs?
Why do they still practice multiple marriages, when it is against the law.
So what is your question?

Do you think that all roads lead to God?
Wrong.
Jesus came to bring division.
Even in ones own family.
I have it in my family.
It has to do with what you believe.
Stand by your beliefs.
If you want to go with them then go.
If you don't want to go with them, then don't.

Know This:
AnyBody Who is Born-Again (Spirit Recreated) is a Child of GOD.

If they get Stuck in a Cult--Pray for'em.
If they get Stuck in a Religion--Pray for'em.
If they get Stuck in a Sin--Pray for'em.
If they Leave the Earth for Good and go on to Heaven--Pray for US.
We will be one short to help us Pray.
Ditto................

I seriously doubt it. I am not being rude but people who think they are going to become gods really don't want to hear that it isn't going to be that way. The only recourse is to RESPECTFULLY disagree.
