What meds are you giving him? Frontline or advantage are the only things that are going to work on a permanent scale. You have to keep him on a regular schedule, re applying at the same time every month, whether you see fleas or not. Flea baths won't help you. Sprays and powders don't work either. Also, keep him indoors, this will greatly reduce his exposure to fleas if he's an outdoor cat.
Once you've applied the Frontline/Advantage, the fleas will be completely gone off the cat in a day or two. Don't bathe the cat for about a week after the application, to let the medicine work. You can get a flea comb, to help show the fleas the way off of the cat. Then just vaccuum and clean everything (furniture, curtains, clothes, bedding, etc.)
And make sure you get de worming medication from the vet also, since fleas cause tapeworms which can be very bad news for your kitty.

They keep coming back becuase they lay their eggs in the environemnt (carpet, drapes, etc), jump onto the cat to feed and eliminate then jump off again. The eggs in the environment hatch and the larvae feeds on flea droppings, etc., become adult fleas which jump back on to the cat. So treating the cat for fleas is never realy enough if you have a bad infestation. The whole house has to be flea-bombed and all the cat's beddins washed. You'll need to vacate your house for 8 hrs or so (you, the kids, the cat, any other living creatue) when you do the flea bomb. This will kill flea eggs for 30 days or so. Then you need to put a a good topical "spot-on" flea med on your kitty like Advantage or Revolution. Vacuum reguarly. Put a little baking soda inside the carpet bag (this kills flea larvae. You can also use flea fogger instead of flea bomb. That's what I used once when we had a bad flea infestation.

First, forget the mayo. Human lice and fleas are not the same. You will have to treat your house and the cat at the same time. Take the cat and yourselves out of the house. Remove plants and cover fish tanks with plastic. Buy how many flea bombs you may need for your size of house. Set bombs off following directions on the can or package. Stay out of the house for several hours then air out. During this time DE flea your cat. What melds. is your cat taking? May have to pick and squish fleas off the cat rather than use another pesticide on it. OR, call in a exterminator. Let them do the work. Flea eggs will remain in your carpet for months waiting to hatch and feed on a host. The host could be you. Exterminators are worth the money and guarantee the work. I have had to use them.

Ok, stop buying the wal-mart, kmart or store brand flea control cause your are waisting your money there, I know. Go to your vet and order some from them, the brands they have will do flea control up to a month while killing any new fleas that may get on your cat. Treat your home as well, vacume well buy some spray and leave the house.
Remember Just cause it's low price and at a store dont mean it will do what it will say on the box.
My aunt gets front line and uses it on her dogs every month and cats every few months. Since the dogs go out side they never get the fleas cause fronline kills any new fleas that get on them. So she harldy ever has to treat her cats(they stay indoors always)
If yours goes outside as well as in then yeah get a brand from your vet cause the one's the store sells wont live up to the job

You have to be very very VERY Extremely persistant when it comes to fleas. You have to check you cat every time it comes back in from going outside if it's an outside cat. Invest in one of those fine tooth comes or if you can't find one of those, look in your hair care or pharmacy section in your grocery store and look for a lice comb. Combing helps a lot. Then sift through his fur by looking really closely at the area of hair close to the skin (be armed with tweezers) and remove any excess fleas. Don't just dump the fleas in the sink or trash because they can jump a hella big distance and transfer to any other animal you have around and even get on you. I hate fleas, especially when there are both on my dog and cat. After you thoroughly comb and tweeze your cat, although some people say they don't work, buy a 4 in 1 flea collar. I believe Hartz brand makes the ones I buy. Then after the collar is on you'll still have to be persistant about combing and tweezing every day or everytime your cat comes in. Try not to let your cat get into areas of medium to somewhat high grass/brush or areas of grass he hasn't gotten in to before because whenever I take my dog to these places he seems to ALWAYS get fleas. I personally don't think those flea drops or veterinarian prescribed fleas drops/gels work. I also don't think flea bombs work either. I hope your cat isn't a long haired cat because those seem to take forever to de-flea, but that's just been my experience.

I'm assuming you are using an Advantage or Frontline product. Make sure you are following the instructions exactly and applying monthly without fail. However, sometimes the fleas get resistant to one product and it pays to switch to another. Just make sure you wait the full 30 days to make the switch and don't double-dose the cat. While waiting, use a flea comb to remove as many fleas as you can or give your cat a bath. Be sure to treat all animals in your household. Wash all pet bedding and anything she regularly lies on.
You also likely have a flea infestation and you may need to treat the inside of your house. You can have a professional do it or use products made for home use. Just make sure you and all of your animals are out of the house when it is done. Good luck.

What meds? If they came from anywhere but the vet, then they are not going to give you permanent results. You have to get something that will kill the adult fleas and the eggs, and then you have to flea bomb your house, also with a product from the vet. The products from the pet store or department store usually only kill adult fleas, then the eggs hatch and you are right back where you started.

Unfortunately meds only work when the flea bites the cat, then the flea dies. It does not stop them from jumping on the cat. So if the cat goes outside, fleas will get on him and bring them inside.

I know this sounds odd..but garlic oil....you can get the odorless and tasteless garlic pills at most health food stores..and sometimes even at walmart...add one to its food every day or every other day... garlic is a natural pest repelant and as it builds up in your cat's cells it will drive the fleas away. I have used it on my dogs for years and they NEVER get fleas or ticks no matter how much they run around in the woods. the garlic will also help boost your cat's immunity levels and all around help it stay more healthy.

The trouble is that flees breed in the environment of your home . I had the same problem, what you can get is a can that you place in the middle of your house and set off just as you are leaving(take your cat with you) It sprays out stuff for an hour then you can return flee free! im sorry i cant remember the name but i got it from the vets and guaranteed for a year. good luck.
