Atheists always tell me that believing in God is ridiculous, and can give me thousands of reasons why I shouldn't be a Christian.
If atheists don't believe in any god, then why don't they try to disprove islam, buddhism, instead of only Christianity?
Just curious.

Wow. I was just wondering why. Alot of the answers made sense, although I don't see America being predominately Christian anymore- alot of people who say they're Christian refuse to act like it. Some of you though, whew. Calm down. I'll pray for you.

And the reason I asked was because, when I told an atheist friend I'd become born-again, I never heard from them but once since. And no, I was not evangelizing to them.

good point! Now they are going to give you some spiel that always ends with us shoving our beliefs down their throat, but aren't they the ones that just have to put their 2 cents in for evolution and cram that down our throats?

If a Christian bashes an Atheist, the Atheist will answer the Christian. Are you sure that Atheists really try to disprove God ?
Most only defend their non-belief. It's silly to be against something that doesn't exist in the first place.
If and when a member of the other religions bash my beliefs, or lack of religious belief, I'll answer him in the same way that I answer a Christian.
I, for one have never given anyone any reason to not be a Christian. I do give my reason for not being one, when asked.

It has been mostly christians, and now mulims, who are bashing and denigrating anyone who doesn't believe their way. Buddhism is more of a way of life than believing in a ghost. Budda did exist. Jesus did, but what he was reported as saying is a fantasy. It was written long after he died. If you accept that, then there is hope for communication between the different groups. And you have every right to believe what you want, and I will support you in that. But I will not support you in trying to convince me that the bible is the word of god. It is the word of every twit with an attitude and quill pen over more than 600 years. Like the shroud of Turin. The church still says that it is authentic, but it has been proven as no more than 1200 years old. Funny, that is as old as the Roman Catholic church.

Buddhist do not worship a god. that is one major error. do you even know what the word atheist means? and how many Muslim were killed or are hiding because of orders put out for their alleged heresy? you don't know. you live in America were ignorance reigns and Christianity is mainly what they hammer on with all the TV evangelicals dopes like Falwell, Robinson and the little tan guy with the Nehru jackets. the catholic priest here are not heard from since their disgraces etc. etc. tip: choose another subject to show how much you know. you are far from being a theologian or a prophet.

Are you a Muslim? Why would they try to convince you to not be one, then? If you dont think atheists have anything to say about Islam read Sam Harris's book The End of Faith.
As far as Buddhism goes, its not the same type of religion. Its atheistic in its pure form. I am an atheist buddhist, albeit a poor buddhist. (I am lazy in my practice)

Simple. The mainstream religion of the United States is Christianity. As Gazoo stated so eloquently in a previous post, when Christians look to force creationism in our public schools, look to break down the barriers of separation of church and state, to have the Ten Commandments adorning courthouses, those who are in the minority must make sure that freedom of religion does not become an outdated concept. Atheists don't believe in any deity, but will prioritize.

In the USA, we are often told that the US is a "Christian" country. Bush 41 said the following in an interview.
Sherman: What will you do to win the votes of the Americans who are atheists?
Bush: I guess I'm pretty weak in the atheist community. Faith in God is important to me.
Sherman: Surely you recognize the equal citizenship and patriotism of Americans who are atheists?
Bush: No, I don't know that atheists should be considered as citizens, nor should they be considered patriots. This is one nation under God.
Sherman (somewhat taken aback): Do you support as a sound constitutional principle the separation of state and church?
Bush: Yes, I support the separation of church and state. I'm just not very high on atheists.

A lot of Athiests try to disprove any religion. But Christianity is a large portion of the population, so if we can disprove Christianity, we can disprove anything else.

Many atheists do disprove Islam, Buddhism, Hindu, Baha'i etc. However, since Christianity is so widespread in the united states, they think that there is more of a chance that you are Christan then there is that you are Baha'i, for example.

Look at the generalizations in your opening sentence. "Atheists always tell me." I assure you that I have never done that. Nor have the majority of atheists on this forum.
We interact primarily with Christians because they are the ones who call us here with questions that start "Atheists....?"
For the most part, the Muslims here say their piece and leave us be. Maybe you and yours should try that approach.

Other religions ARE dealt with by atheists.
Let me give you this example though.
You are familiar with the English language. Imagine attempting to learn Spanish?
Same thing with Atheists. It is NOT that the cannot, but they prefer to deal with what is common locally around them. Such as Christianity. Since they know it so well, they are able to refute is so well also.
Mostly, they leave other denominations to local hero's who grow up with other denominations, so that they not be made to appear foolish, albeit that religion really presents no answers to speak of as it is.
