i have windows xp home edition which is legal and activated but when i turn it on i get reminded to activate it but it already is how do i stop this from happening...?

Otherwise call Microsoft and they'll walk you through the steps to take care of that problem, it should even list a number for you to call to activate.

You have just discovered ONE BIG reason many IT Pros have had it with Windows and are converting to open source software in droves. The activation is constantly irritating, especially if you have made some hardware changes. Now, you will likely be looked at as a crook by Microsoft, not because of anything you did, but because of false positives and bugs in their software. It may say things like "this copy of Windows is not genuine" when it is. That is called a false positive. The best thing to do to get rid of it is to get rid of Windows and install Kubuntu for free instead at www.kubuntu.org. If enough people did this, they may get rid of that irritating "feature".

Go through the activation process. If you don't, it may lock down your system in 14 days.

This has happened to me and I had a legal copy, try Firststation.com for a activation crack which worked for me. Hope this helps.
