I came out of a bad 5 year relationship about a year and a half ago. I am 39 years old too. Just take the necessary time (away from dating anyone) to collect your thoughts, heal. learn your lessons, and refine yourself. Don't rush into the dating scene just to avoid the hurt that you're going through. You may end up hurting someone yourself, and as you know, that kind of hurt sucks.
I will add that, after I got out of the bad relationship, after the hurt, there was liberation. I had a new chance to do it right, and believe me, I learned a lot of lessons about myself and what I would and wouldn't tolerate in my life. I am in a good relationship now. I wish you well. Be patient with yourself and remind yourself daily of the things you've accomplished that make you feel good about yourself. Be your own best friend right now, take care of yourself and NEVER say you are too old. You're not. When you least expect it, when you are comfortable with yourself again, good love will find you. Let it. Do your part to heal and get past this and feel good about yourself.

I'm 39 and have just become single. I don't really get out during the week and the only time I go out is normally on a Saturday night. But I'm very shy so really don't have the courage to speak to woman when I do go out. So, sorry, don't have any advice but I know exactly what your feeling.

You are not at all old. My first marriage broke up when I was 33; I met someone else at 36; we had a baby at 39.
I can so sympathise with the "starting all over again" thing. It might take a few hits and misses(!) before you get the hang of it. Aging? Never heard of it!

other people want to make you feel old. if you present yourself young at heart and feel conviction to that.....dont mind how others see the number '39' like youve just put on yourself.
dont think about it as 'meeting women' if thats what youre trying for. think of it as meeting people. making new friends. maybe something meaningful will happen. peace
