Hawking and the like publish a lot of "what if" that gets quoted as fact.

taa (below) - true science would only report their actual findings. Hawking and the like publish innuendo just to have others publish counter innuendo.

It's called science. I assume that we are talking about Stephen Hawking. One develops a hypothesis and then looks for relevant data to prove or disprove one's idea. The development of theories to gain knowledge and understanding of one's environment.

ChiGuy, the only form of science that could be considered true is mathematics. Every other branch of science can be considered theoretical at some level. All knowledge is developed by man. What exactly do you define as true?

I guess you don't know what theoretical physics is then. He's not inventing stories, as in every field of science you have to have evidence to back up your theories otherwise they are not theories, just mere hypothesis.
