Do you have kids, you might consider a minivan like the toyota sienna or the honda oddessy both are very good and reliable model, and are not as much of a gas guzzler as an suv, but if you want a cheap car with good gas mileage, i would recommend getting a camry or a honda accord, 4 cylinder model if you want to save lots of gas and money as those are the 2 base model (25/34 mpg), or you could go get the v6 model, which can get an average of 20/31 mpg, but if you want to spend a bit more, then you can get the accord or camry hybrid models.
But do your research and shop around, look around the internet and go get some test drives on the model that you want and that your family wants. Good luck!

Chevy cobalt, Pontiac G5,or the Doge Caliber. The new Nissan Sentra is roomy but it looks like a girls car the Toyota Corolla is also a nice car but it has no passing power what so ever. The Civic is also a roomy car but it is so ugly and its to is under powered unless you get the si four door. The Mazda 3 is also a nice car it has good pick up and its good on gas.

Toyota corolla. Very inexpensive car new or used, best gas millage of any car today and I believe for the past few years as well 41MPG. They have good crash test ratings and last a long time if properly taken care of.
