I just made an icing for my chocolate cupcakes out of sugar, cream cheese and butter.
...after I put the icing on...how long can my cupcakes stay unrefridgerated with this frosting on?

I wouldn't leave them out for more that 2-3 hours.

I agree with other posters about keeping it out on the counter. You should refrigerate and remove to warm up to room temp prior to serving.

they can stay on for a good day to a day and a half, no more than 2 days

I wouldn't leave it out over a half hour....
