Been there. Done that. It was called the Dark Ages. Nuff said.

Science and religion aren't necessarily mutually exclusive. You can be a religious scientist, and you can be an atheist Luddite.
I personally would feel more comfortable living in a world where most people believed in God. After all, it's a religious commandment (at least, a Jewish commandment) to love your neighbor, judge people favorably, give charity, be kind to animals, and generally help each other out.
It's true, believers have done terrible things, but so have atheists; there will always be people who will do nasty things regardless of their society's belief systems.

Ummm... Take a look around you. This world is closer to the hypothetical world you're asking about than the scientific one you imply. Show me one country run by science. There are plenty of them run by religion. Most, it seems, are run with guidance from both.

Theocracies constantly degrade into the hatefulness, the fascism and hypocrisy of the character of the 'believers'! coronary heart devoid of the pinnacle has failed the East! Head devoid of the guts has failed the West. All faith would be out of date in a quick couple hundred years! Xtians have been spreading their hate and violence on account that they creeped out from under their rock! comparable with the different bastard babies of Judaism. there is not any 'vivid side' that isn't thoroughly overshadowed by their sinfulness and horrors perpetuated by the 'real believers', whether in a 'God' or 'freedom' or 'funds'... it particularly is the 'conception' it particularly is the faith and the hardship! The enlightened are actually not religious, we are all mystics understanding that we are all One, it particularly is the place all religions FAIL!

No. It would be a terrible place to live. Can you imagine all the persecution? Ever seen V for Vendetta? It would be just like that. Terrifying.
Edit: a world without religion would be a better one. Religion causes more trouble than its worth.

History has proven over and over again how bad it is to have religious leaders in power. I am christian and I shudder to think what the world would be like if the Pope still controled things. The again scientists in power are not much better than the religious leaders if you think about it. In 100 years we have managed to destroy our planet--I'm being unfair, it's not the scientists, it's governments. So we are screwed either way...

A world run by religion will be a world consumed with prejudices, irrationality, hypocrisy, and hate. I think a healthy dose of both spirituality and secularism would be good for the world. . .Too much of anything can be bad, I wouldn't want a world completely run by science.

Nope, the last time the world was run by religious people, it was called "The Dark Ages". I hope we never see it repeated. We've come too far to turn back now.

In this case, there is no flip side. We have two egregious examples from which to choose: Europe in the middle ages, and Saudi Arabia today.

Both are essential. To live in a world dominated by one at the expense of the other is to live in ignorance.

Not good at all. Science actually looks for answers, and the answers don't harm people. Religion has horrible, made-up answers that causes mostly suffering.
