Most people will agree when I say Floyd Mayweather is the best current fighter pound for pound in the world. If anyone wants to disaree with me (and some do oddly enough), tell me all about it. But please, just start telling me after 5/5/07.

Before and after the fight he is definitely top ten pound for pound.

My top ten includes (in no particular order, they are simply the ten best in the sport today):

Rafael Marquez
Juan Manuel Marquez
Manny Pacquiao
Floyd Mayweather Jr.
Miguel Cotto
Jermain Taylor
Shane Mosley
Joe Calzaghe
Mikkel Kessler
Ivan Calderon

With all due respect sir, a fighter does not have to be a multi division champ to be great. I.E. Rocky Marciano, Willie Pep, Carlos Monzon, Aaron Pryor, etc. FYI, Rafael Marquez has been a pro for 12 years, a world champion for more than four years and 7 title defenses and he has starched some very decent fighters, including last night in which he beat a game Israel Vasquez to win another title. That speaks volumes. Rafael and his brother Juan Manuel are the most talented brothers in the sport today (sorry Vlad and Vitali).

Marquez is not there yet. There's still Floyd, Manny, Wright, and other great fighters. I guess you could consider him sixth in the rankings now. Marquez has beaten one of the best little men around but has not been making a buzz in the boxing community since 3 days ago. I think if Marquez consistently gives a spectacular performance, he is not far off the top 3.

Me ~
Both the Marquez Brothers are in the top ten pound for pound category, the only down side to these two guys is their trainer/manager Nacho Bernstein, he's living off these two fighters and worried about stuffing his pockets instead of letting these two brothers become the legends that they are meant to be.

Right after Juan Manuel's fight against Manny Pacquiao, Juan wanted an immediate rematch and although the Pacquiao camps offer was hideous, Nacho wanted complete control and advised Juan that there wasn't going to be a rematch with Pacquiao. It would have been better for Juan's career if he fought Manny for the short change and beat him then dictated what he wanted in their third fight.

Rafael showed the heart of a warrior by getting off the canvas and fighting back and hurting Vasquez. As I wrote before in this forum Rafael throws hard straight shots right down the middle. He broke Vasquez nose with a jab, watch the replay.

The Marquez brothers are fighting fighters in their primes and beating them not like the other so called top fighters. If Floyd beats Oscar so what, Oscar has been out of his prime for ten years now. These kids are young, determined and in their primes and legitimate top ten pound for pound fighters.

At his best, which is a number of years ago he was a solid, well schooled fighter. Raf never was good enough for consideration in the mythical "pound for pound" title. Sorry.
