Hello - The scripture you quoted was incomplete, and the missing part of that verse, is where REVELATION can be found.
John 3:14 reads: And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up.
The above scripture refers to our belief in christ, and all that He has done for us. Just as the bite of a serpent can infect and cause death, so to...sin has infected all man, and would destroy all humans were it not for the sacrifice of Jesus.
The Lord often speaks to us in parables and metaphors so we will remember, and deeply meditate upon His words. Many of the metaphors found in the New Testament, are compared to events from the Old Testament.
Note: Without reading "all" scripture, it's impossible to understand methaphors and symbology in scripture, and one will never obtain "true revelation" of God's Word.
In Numbers 21:8-9 from the Old Testament, the Lord said:
Moses, Make thee a fiery serpent, and set it UPON a pole: and it shall come to pass, that every one that is bitten, when he looketh UPON it, shall live. And Moses made a serpent of BRASS, and put it UPON a pole, and it came to pass, that if a serpent had bitten any man, when he beheld the serpent of brass, he LIVED.
Bronze is obtained after it has been burned through heat and fire, which eventually reveals the final product. If one reads several scriptures from the Old Testament, it is clear, that Brass, which many sometimes refer to as Bronze or Brazen, represents "judgment of sin".
Thus, just as those who looked upon the Serpent that Moses lifted up were saved by God's Grace, through faith...Likewise, those who believe, trust, and have faith that Jesus was lifted UPON the cross and died for our sins, shall also be saved.
John 3:16 - For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
We can not rely upon human intellect, reasoning, and understanding. Faith is believing in that which has no logical meaning by earthly or human standards, simply because we trust the Lord completely. This is the point John 3:14 is attempting to make when it refers to the "serpent in the wilderness".
Blessings, Miji

God gave them the serpent because all who looked at the
serpent were saved.
Numbers 21:9 Mosses at once made a serpent of copper and placed it upon a signal pole and it did occurr that if a serpent had bitten a man and he gazed at the copper serpent he then kept alive.
John 3:14 and just as Mosses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness so the son of man must be lifted up. That everyone believeing in him may have everlasting life.
So it was Jesus.

Yahweh sent fiery serpents to bite those who spoke against him and Moses. The people come to Moses who fashions a brass serpent on a pole. When people who were bit looked at the brass serpent on the pole they were saved from their sins and lived. The serpent could represent Christ. In Gnosticism it is believed that the serpent in the garden was actually Christ, sent to save us from ignorance and our enslavement to Yaldaboath (Yahweh).

Numbers 21:9 - And Moses made a serpent of brass, and put it upon a pole, and it came to pass, that if a serpent had bitten any man, when he beheld the serpent of brass, he lived.
Numbers 21:8 And the LORD said unto Moses, Make thee a fiery serpent, and set it upon a pole: and it shall come to pass, that every one that is bitten, when he looketh upon it, shall live. 9 And Moses made a serpent of brass, and put it upon a pole, and it came to pass, that if a serpent had bitten any man, when he beheld the serpent of brass, he lived.

Moses held up a serpent for the people to look at. If the people looked at it, they would be healed of their disease. A serpent is a snake. It is supposed to represent evil and why he wanted people to look at evil to be healed, I can't understand. (remember it was a serpent that told Eve to eat the fruit of the knowledge of good and evil.)
Today the symbol of a snake on a staff represents medical care or hospital.
