My Westie lies on his front and bunches a bit of his bed between his front paws and then sucks it. Is this normal (I don't know any other dog that does it). He doesn't seem stressed or upset when he does it, on the contrary he does it most when we are sitting down watching TV in the evening and he falls asleep while he is doing it. Does anyone elses dog do this? Is he doing it because he is unhappy or should I not worry about it?

i used to know a cat that did it, it is like a comfort thing if the cats expression was anything to go by, the cat lived to a ripe old age so i dont think its a problem.

I also have a jack russell who suckles quite loudly in his sleep into thin air... like he is suckling from his mum, thing is he's 10! He looks totally content too.

My cat used to do it. It's relaxing for them. Think of it as a toddler sucking their thumb.

I bet he's quite young

He's found something that soothes him and probably reminds him of sukling his mum. Nothing to worry about . Unless you want him to stop

Likely he was weaned a little young, and still alittle "oral". Otherwise, If he interacts well, I wouldn't let it worry me.
