help him until I can get him to the vet tomorrow. He weighs about 20 lbs. and he is 10 years old. I can't figure out what has happened. Last night he wanted out about 9 - 10 times and finally after the 4th time I started watching to see what he was doing and he was trying to use the bathroom. If you have any safe suggestions please let me know, and I can already tell you I can't afford to take him to the emergency clinic. Thanks for your concern and help.

Since taking him to the vet may not be an option at the moment, try to feel it there is a mass in his stomache like a blockage. If there is and its low it may just be severe constipation. Try giving him a saline laxative. You can make it using epsom salt or mineral oil and squirting in his rectum. It may sound gross to do but it's a start. If you need something quick and easy to insert the fluid with get a bulb syringe or turkey baster from the store. Also try from the front side too, see if he will drink some of the oil. Just be sure not to give too much because if there is an obsruction, it could worsen it. Hope it helps.

If this is a sudden onset of these symptoms you could check to see if there is a hard lump of stool just inside the anul opening by putting on a surgical glove and vaseline gently insert forefinger into anus. If there is hard stool you can lubricate with mineral oil and a eyedropper. You may want to warm the oil slightly. Be very carefull you don't scratch or poke your poor pet. If there isn't anything blocking the opening then you really need to get him to a vet as quickly as possible, I agree with the others tomorrow could be too late. Explain your situation and see if they will see you immediately. Do you have any family or friends that have a visa or master card, that may be an option for you too. If you cannot get a vet to see you until tomorrow, keep your pet warm, you could try giving him a bit of warm water, place a warm towel on his tummy, if it is gas causing the bloat it may move it. This is serious and there is little else you can do but give him lots of loving. Try calling the vet now, check to see if your dog has a temperature, check his eyes and nose for any discharge and try to remember if your wee boy has been anywhere where he could have eaten anti freeze, or any other kind of poison, these are things the vet will need to know. Good luck and I will pray for your pet.

I have had this problem twice with one of my older dogs.

The first time it cost alot of money to take her to the vet and have
the vet tell me that she was blocked up. She needed to be
flushed out. It was a lack of fibre in her diet.

The second time I went to the drug store and bought some
suppositories and you buy the ones for an infant. Place one
up the dogs bum, in your dogs case maybe 2 because of his
size and within 15 minutes the dog will need to go. Now
another to keep in mind is that even though the dog may poop,
it can still be backed up and that does cause alot of pain for
the dog. So keep your eye on the dogs poop. You will know
when it looks normal, and I would suggest you still call your
vet, but this way it certainly won't cost you any where near the
same price. Good Luck.

Bloat is something that is quite common in some breeds of DOGS.
For stomach problems, I have a book that suggests canned pumpkin is safe for dogs and cats ... constipated or diahrrea.
Yoghurt is another thing that I've given to my dogs when they've had sore stomachs.
Call a vet clinic for advise. I don't know how it works where you're from, but in my area, it's free to call and they are usually quite willing to help over the phone.

Unfortunately, he really should be seen by an emergency vet today. He may have a bowel obstruction and these can be fatal. If this is the case, the sooner the dog is treated, the more likely it will be he can survive. See if you can work out a payment plan with the vet, but you really shouldn't delay.

Hi, I understand that you are looking for some advice or resources to help fully train your dog or fix behavior problems. If a professional dog trainer is not an option at this time, or if you want to trt training your dog on your own (a great way to bond), I'd suggest you https://biturl.im/aU7hL

A friend recommened it to me a few years ago, and I was amazed how quickly it worked, which is why I recommend it to others. The dog training academy also has as an excellent home training course.

The belly distention is the result of the constipation.
Give your little dog about 1 oz of mineral oil or castor oil. He won't take this on his own so you will need a little dropper to get it to his throat. (Sounds like the poor pooch might have gotten into some cheese).

Another remedy is a human stool softener tablet or laxative but it may take up to 8 hours to work
The oil will go through him in about 3-4 hours...and it will be a tad messy.

He is shaking because he is in discomfort........a warm heating pad or even the warmth from your hand on his belly will help a lot until he goes to the bathroom.

It happens all the time when a pet goes off his usual diet.

Good luck

(By the way)...I wouldn't worry about "Bloat"...that is a condition that ruminants such as cattle, deer, elk and goats get from eating grain then drinking copious amounts of water. I doubt if your dog does a whole lot of grazing.

He needs to get to the vet A.S.A.P. This could be an emergency.

He may have a bloated stomach, which is very dangerous and is fatal in a lot of cases.

I'll keep my fingers crossed for your doggy. But with a swollen stomach and constipation- that really needs to be checked out.

It sounds like he may have a blockage. Has he gotten into the garbage or eaten anything that you're aware of? Can you call the emergency clinic or your vets emergency line and ask them what you can do to keep him comfortable until you are able to take him tomorrow?

Buy an over-the-counter medicine to help with the constipation. Possibly milk of magnesia. My doctor told me to give my 22 lb old daughter 1-2 tsp a day. Call the emergency clinic anyway and ask them what you can do. Good luck!
