was extremely difficult since I have flat inverted nipples. My daughter would fall asleep at the breast and it was so hard to wake her up, and she would cry way to much and was always hungry. Finally when I got my supply in at two weeks and she got the hang of it and liked the breast, I got a really bad infection and was put on antibiodics, metronidizole and ciprofloxicin. My obgyn and her pediatrician said to bottle feed her formula for one week while on the medicine. My mom said that it seemed odd to her to do this because most antibiotics are still breastfed friendly. I even triple checked with la leche league and a leader said it to be odd as well and to get a second opinion and gave me two different doctors numbers which only one got back to me late after 5days. She told me that those two medications are now accepted and ok to breastfeed approved by the Board of the Academy of Pediactirics. My supply- low,1oz,15each breast, slow,I handexpressed for 5days and we have to restart.HELP!

La Leche League may be the best able to advise you in person or over the phone on how to get your milk supply back.

What's so striking about this is how your doctor was totally indifferent to your need to breastfeed your baby, and her decision jeopardized that for you. Take it to heart from now on to advocate strongly for yourself when you can see that their decisions are ignoring your needs. If your doctor won't listen, there are others out there that will. I'm sorry you had to go through this.

get a second opinion, maybe call your regular doctor not your obgyn. Hand expression will not keep your supply up you need to get a pump in order to keep your milk, if your supply is that low you need to start pumping ASAP!!!!!!

Avent puts a good hand pump that is inexpensive called Isis it is only about $40. If money is no object to you get the medela double electric pump in style that runs about $250. I used both.

Your doctor can prescribe you a medicine that will help you increase your milk supply, it makes you a little groggy but works well. Fenugreek is a herb that you can by at a vitamin store and works well to increase your milk supply. I used both of those also.

This is a crucial point and you dont want to lose your milk, just keep the faith and dont give up no matter how low you get!! Just pump often even if nothing comes out! It is the stimilation that keeps the milk supply going

good luck!

I am taking it you do not have a pump. Your best bet is going to be to go buy a breast pump (you can get one at Walmart)that will be much easier than hand expressing and more likely to boost your milk supply back up since it has a stronger pull much like a baby's suck. And just keep at it, your baby may be reluctant to get back on the breast but keep trying and she will do it. And I have flat nipples too....they gave me these plastic round things with foam in the inside and a hole that fits around your nipple. I had to wear them all the time but they were comfy and they bring your nipple out so your baby can latch on better. (too bad I can't remeber exactly what they're called)Ask your doctor they may have some. But I ended up pumping my milk out and feeding it to my baby in a bottle supplemented with a little formula. Maybe you could try that too.

I realize you are under a tremendous amount of stress with all of this and I am sorry you are having such a time with something that is so fulfilling and wonderful to do as a new mom. You will have to restart. The bad new is that it may not work. There is always the possibility that your milk won't come. Let's hope for it to come. Stressing can cause your milk to stop, so you must try to put all of your stress away. It won't be easy, but it is necessary. Best of luck to you. I wish you success! Get yourself destressed now, whatever it takes! No valium though. LOL

Even if you have to basically start all over to get your baby to get the hang of nursing again, 2 weeks is such a minimal amount of time when you look at the big picture. With my second child I had a tooth infecion which made me ill and in quite a bit of pain. I was unable to eat so I felt I was unable to get any nutrition to my baby. Once I began nursing again it actually only took a few days for everything to fall into place again. As for the low amount of milk, the more you nurse, the more milk you will get.

I had to re-commence my provide besides..feed her for see you later as she will be in a position to bypass at each feeding..the suckling will be functional to stimulate the breasts to produce extra milk. if she seems hungry or is dropping weight afterwards i'd accurate her off with some formulation. If she merely is going on one part pump the different with a accurate high quality pump.. I also supplemented a brewers yeast (powder in my orange juice) its nasty yet meant to help with milk production. (similar stuff in beer minus the alcohol)..i had mone decrease back in some weeks. also drink a great number of water. solid success and all you need to do is try...if it doesn't artwork formulation isn't te worst element that ought to ensue.
