Absolutely get it checked out and asap! It could be a very bad cavity (and btw cavity basically means 'hole') or even an abscess (infection) which needs to be attended to without delay if even to start the patient on antibiotic medication (if the tooth is abscessed).

If you do have an abscess, you can either get a root canal (better bet if have money or perhaps can pay it off) typically done by an endotontist, who is a specialist in root canal therapy, or can get the tooth pulled. Most opt for the root canal, in essence saving the tooth. If you do need a root canal, the office visit is not what is painful ;) but how much money it is. (The dr numbs the patient beforehand so there's no pain.) After the root canal, usually done in one office visit, the person goes back to their general dentist to be fitted for a permanent crown (which is more money but well worth it ).

I don't mean to sound so pessimistic about your apparent cavity(?) Everything will be fine in the grand scheme of things, but please do get to a dentist to get that tooth examined and x-ray'd asap! Good luck to you and great health.

Sounds like a cavity. They don't pull teeth with cavites(.Unless they have to because the tooth is far decayed.). They will fix it so it doesn't hurt you any more. They put the tooth to sleep, remove the decay, and put a filling in where the tooth strucutre is gone. Only takes a few minutes . The machine sounds like a jet engine, close your eyes and pretend your flying somewhere! But you should go as soon as you can.

Go to the dentist. It might be a rotten/dead tooth. It might be a filling that fell out.

Oh damn right it's rotten. All of me teeth are brown with holes in them. Well... they were before I had dentures! If it's really brown, it's too late to save it.

what they said. and NO, your teeth will not move so where you will need braces. i know because i have had 4 teeth pulled out in different parts of my mouth and the remaining teeth just sit there.
