There are over a hundred different breeds of cats, and there are a ton of book written about them. Also, there is plenty of information about cat breeds online. Here are just some of the breeds: persian, siamese, ragdoll, bengal, cornish rex, american and british shorthair. All of the breeds have different personalities, activity level, and grooming requirments, so if you are interesting in getting a cat, make sure you look into a bunch of different breeds, and find the one thats right for you and that you would have enough time to take care of.
Getting a cat from a breeder is fun, but if you want to rescue a cat from the pound, then thats even better. I have three cats that I saved from the pound and they are the sweetest cats ever.
