For the classic procedure of picking locks, you need two instruments: a pick and a torque wrench.

A torque wrench simply twists the lock while it is being picked, to help the pins stay in the right place. A flat screwdriver will usually work.

A pick is a small, sharp instrument used to manipulate individual pins. It can be improvised from many things, including needles, paper clips, steel wire, etc...

You need first to understand how that specific kind of lock works.
That's the engineering science part of it. Sorry, but a procedure for the typical mechanical locks, as many engineers would be able to invent one for you, however, SHOULD NOT BE DISTRIBUTED ON THE NET.

If you're not fussy about it, a drill will pick almost any lock, key or combination. A big enough hole will defeat most any lock.
