There's this guy in my town who is really fat because of all the burgers he eats. He constantly hits things and breaks stuff whenever he walks around. He's been banned from several stores, but he still has to go to the supermarket, and when he does he always knocks things over and breaks things. There's been talk of a legal injunction against him to require him to lose weight or go to jail. WHat do you think of this?

That is as silly as saying that you wouldput someone in jail for being ugly, tall, short, female or male. There is no why that the town can get a legal injunction to MAKE him lose weight. That is against his rights. Your city attny wouldn't touch that. Or if they did the man attny will have a feild day.... WHAT A JOKE!!!!!

I think it's really mean for the people fo your city to do something like that to him. I mean I think he knows that he is OVERWEIGHT, and he probably is embarressed about the things that he does. Giving him an injunction or putting him in jail because of his weight will make him feel even more ashamed of himself and more self concisous.

You can't throw people in jail for being fat. What are you Joseph Stalin? The guy is probably a jerk and probably should just get his groceries delivered. Incarceration or law change to some fat litmus test is unethical.

Just wait a little while. Either your State, local or Federal government will pass a law prohibiting anyone from getting so big and fat, regardless of the reason.
Cigarettes, motorcycle helmets, speed traps, seat belts, etc., next it could be anything. Take perfume, some people can't stand it, fat people, think girls wanting to be models, boys wanting to be girls, etc. Banning words, banning legal actions, you name it, some socialist liberal will take it away, given time.

No one can be put in jail for being overweight. There is not law that can force him to lose weight either. He has to do that on his own.
I doubt an injunction would work either.

Don't worry about it, there are laws to protect you, but in the mean time you can wear a yellow shirt that says "wide load", and maybe even carry a beeping alarm when you back up???

there are other options like getting someone to do the shopping for him. if he can afford the money to make himself that fat he can likely afford someone to do the shopping for him. Not that i would recommend this to him, i would try to convince him that it is in his best interest to lose the wait regardless of the legal injuction, but if he wont there are other options.

That's classic prejudice against overweight people--assuming he's clumsy because he's fat. There are thin people who are also clumsy, and there are fat(ter) people who are not clumsy.
