I am looking for a completely free or open source program to convert a PDF file into a JPG file. I have found programs that install themselves as a printer and you print to them, but they are all Shareware and only good for 30 days, and I would like one that is free or open source.

The "Print Screen" option will not work because the PDF is too large and can not fit on the screen. I can zoom out, but then it becomes non-readable.

Try... http://www.freeware-guide.com/dir/util/pdf.html and go down to... Cool PDF Reader this seems to do it. In the reader you will need to zoom to the level of detail you want then do a "save as"

Or... Could you not import the the pdf (or insert) into a dtp such as corel draw, then export as a JPG.

A JPG file is normally a screenshot or a picture or at least something that would fit in one screen without even scrolling down.

How many pages is your PDF file? Let's say you have 1,000 pages. Do you plan to convert all 1,000 pages of PDF into one single screen of JPG? That would seem impossible, or at least very ridiculous. Even for a two-pager PDF document and converting it into a huge JPG file wherein the user has to scroll down to see page two... is still funny.

So, I recommend... printkey2000 as your screenshoot capture program: http://www.freewareweb.com/cgi-bin/archive.cgi?ID=292 Install it successfully. There is an option to capture any rectangular area on your screen - so read and learn on how to do this. Hint: press F1.

Open your PDF file.
1. Press Alt+V S, this will display single pages at a time.
2. Press Alt+V D, this will fit the whole page in your screen.
3. Press Print Screen button and do rectangular capture
4. Press the Save button on the PrintKey2000 program
5. Save your screenshot as a JPG file, example Screen1.JPG

Hope this helps, cheers!

@Yoi: how's this for completely "freeware": just use the "prnt scrn" or "print scr" key on your keyboard! Open your pdf; Press prnt scr; Open Paint; select "Paste"; save the result as a JPG.

You're done.
