I was a hairdresser for ten years.

It depends very much on your personality whether you think its a good job or not. You HAVE to be really good with all kinds of people. It was the one thing that made me get out in the end, trying to be nice and pleasant to nasty, unpleasant people for the hour or so you are doing their hair can get very, very hard work.

Hours are not great, and when you first start out the money is really rubbish. The only way to really make it pay is to either have your own salon, go mobile, or become a specialist in a big town centre salon (e.g. specialise in perming, colouring, cutting, etc.)

Best way to do it is go to college part time and get a job in a salon that encourages training and going on courses - they don't all let you. Even better is to work in a salon that encourages staff to enter competitions, that way you get to make a name for yourself quite quickly.

Contact you local branch of the National Hairdresser's Federation for info on good salons who may employ you.

Good luck

Well my mom is a hairdresser and has a license in cosmetology so I mean it is defiantly good money if you are willing to work hard and it is very fun and yes it is good but it takes practice I mean it might look like oh yeah cutting hair and coloring and highlighting and all the other things would be boring but it is really fun and sorry I don't know how long it takes to be one.
