I would say that there must be something special about that table that makes it particularly desirable! I used to have a favourite restaurant that only had ONE booth, and everyone wanted it :)

So I suppose that table is probably in a bay window, or has a special view, or DOESN'T have a bright downlight over it (grrrr I hate those things.. I refuse to sit under them), isn't right next to the bathroom or kitchen, or something along those lines.

It's in front of the window? It's near the door or far from the door? One person I know always wants to sit with her back to the wall, it could be that... I wouldn't pick that seat personally I don't think, I don't mind much where I sit as long as the food is good, but I know enough people who care a lot about their places to understand.

I know what you mean. Some people are really picky about where they want to sit. I think the location makes a big difference: whether there is a fan/ac vent over head, if it's by a window, away from the main path, etc.

Around here the receptionist ushers you to a table and you have some choice but she would never seat you at a dirty table. And in most restaurants a vacated table is cleaned immediately.

I never want to sit under an air vent or near the door or kitchen.

So they can complain about it and try to get something for free. I had this happen many times as a server.
